Lecture, in person and Zoom
When the original Queen Mary & Queen Elizabeth were retired in the late Sixties, it was largely believed crossing the Atlantic by ocean liner was over. The airlines had taken as much as 98% of all passengers. But Britain’s Cunard Line felt differently and built one last Atlantic super liner. Thus, came the ship which became the most successful liner of all time, the Queen Elizabeth 2. Fondly known as the QE2, she went on to sail for 39 years, steamed more miles, visited more ports and carried more passengers than any other liner of her kind. Now residing as a hotel & museum out in Dubai, Bill Miller will review the ship’s long and colorful history.
Bill Miller, known as Mr. Ocean Liner, has written over 100 books on passenger ships. He is also a popular guest speaker on modern-day cruise ships, having made hundreds of voyages and visited ports from Alaska to Antarctica. He has also hosted ocean liner events at Lincoln Center, been a curator at South Street Seaport, appeared in numerous television programs, and been the recipient of numerous awards. His life has been the subject of a TV documentary aptly titled Mr Ocean Liner and available on Amazon Prime.
