Soup Contest Rules
Entry is Free!
The Legendary Soup Contest 2024 will be open for the public from 1 to around 4:30pm
Presentation of the Winners’ Trophy will be at around 5pm.
• Contestants will need to provide soup (5 gallons), all necessary cooking and serving utensils, appropriate means for maintaining the serving temperature of the soup throughout the contest.
• 2 CROCK POTS ARE PREFERRED and extension cords.
• NO STERNOS or open flames permitted.
• If you are not using standard crock-pots, PLEASE tell us what you are bringing to keep your soup warm. We need to prepare for our ELECTRIC NEEDS for the event. This applies especially to commercial restaurants.
COVID FOOD PRECAUTIONS MUST BE OBSERVED!
Proper food prep/service attire such as hats or hairnets, rubber/nitrile gloves and MASKS should be worn when handling food.
Individual props or a decoration to enhance presentation is encouraged, not required. Be advised The Promenade is on the water and can be extremely windy with high wind gusts. Weights will be needed to hold props, decorations and other equipment or supplies.
The National Lighthouse Museum will supply tables (6 foot table per contestant), 1 chair, electricity and some extension cords, individual 2 oz. cups, and spoons.
All contestants understand the Festival will take place regardless of the weather (“rain or shine”).
The Lighthouse Point Festival Planning Committee determines Booth/ space assignments. Assigned spaces must be left in the condition the contestant found it. All contestants must dispose of garbage into garbage bags. There are NO SLOPSINK facilities available.
SET UP for Soup Contest participants is between 11:30 a.m To 12:30 a.m. Vehicles can be driven down The Promenade to unload as early as 10:00 a.m. and must be off the Promenade by 12:30 a.m.
PARKING: always a challenge!
There is no parking on the Promenade for this event.
• Parking is available on the streets. Free on Sundays
• Staten Island Ferry Terminal South- 1 Ferry Terminal Viaduct,St. George, Staten Island-Free on Sunday
• Empire Outlets (indoor parking)- 55B Richmond Terrace at Empire Outlets
• Courthouse Parking 325 St. Marks Place
TAKEDOWN: 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (possibly earlier) for Soup contest members.
Vehicles can be driven down to The Promenade to load at 6:00 p.m. and must be off The Promenade by 7:30 p.m.
Contestants hereby agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the National Lighthouse Museum, and all their managers, officers, sponsors, employees, agents, and guests from any injury that may arise to Contestants, their employees, agents, guests, or customers; or for the loss, theft, or damage to any food, display, merchandise, samples or vehicle from any cause whatsoever while in transit to or from, or while participating in the Festival.
When Acts of God or any other causes, not within the control of the National Lighthouse Museum, or its associates, make it impossible for the Contestant to occupy the Festival premises, then in such case, the National Lighthouse Museum, Other Sponsors and their officers, sponsors, employees, agents, and guests are jointly released from any and all claims which may arise as consequence thereof.
