DESCRIPTION:Lighthouses of the United States\nPaintings by Alfred La Banca Exhibit \nApril 28-May 26\, 2024\nOpening Reception April 28th at 2pm \nAlfred La Banca was born in New York City in 1930. His family spent summers in New Dorp\, Staten Island\, and so began his love for coastal communities. He owned three IOR-rated sailboats and competed from Maine to Florida – including Newport\, Annapolis\, Fort Lauderdale and Key West. \nLighthouses were his passion. He called them the “Vanishing Castles of America”. Sadly\, these beautiful marine castles are disappearing\, often abandoned or destroyed. It was the hope of Alfred LaBanca to rekindle America’s passion with lighthouses through his beautiful watercolor paintings. \nHis work has been selected for Ritz Carlton Hotels\, York Wallpaper and many local art shows. \nHe was a member of the United States Airforce\, New York Yacht Club\, New York Athletic Club Yacht Club\, Corinthians\, Storm Trysail Club and the Noroton Yacht Club. \nThe La Banca Lighthouse Collection has over 250 paintings. We hope you enjoy viewing this wonderful collection and perhaps think of Al LaBanca when you see a lighthouse.

DESCRIPTION:An overview of shipwrecks off the Jersey Shore with Dan Lieb \nDan is a certified scuba diver having attained a divemaster certification. He has logged over 2\,300 dives to date. This includes rescue dives\, an important certification to hold in the field. \nHe has a love for maritime history in the state of New Jersey. For more than two decades he has spent countless hours researching and identifying shipwrecks off the coast. This avocation\, coupled with his diving and technical illustration background has allowed him to participate in 30 archaeological expeditions throughout the region. He has mapped well over twenty wreck sites and created illustrations of them for archaeological reports for both state and federal agencies.  \nGet your tickets today!

The series will be narrated by Wade R. Goria. Wade is a National Lighthouse Museum historian\, author\, and former New York University professor. \nExplore fascinating and mysterious sites unfamiliar to most New Yorkers on this exciting boat ride\, one that circumnavigates Staten Island taking you past critical points of maritime interest: the historically rich Shooters\, Prall’s\, Isle of Meadows (the center of what was once the world’s largest garbage dump that now served as Fresh Kills Park representing NYC’s largest park)\, Hoffman and Swinburne Islands. \nOur journey up the Kill Van Kull\, and the Arthur Kill waterways\, over to Raritan Bay\, Princes’ Bay Staten Island’s southern shore around the Narrows contains much important history critical to NYC’s development and to its maritime life: Sailor’s Snug Harbor\, the Caddell’s Shipyard and Repair Facilities at Port Richmond\, Mariners Harbor\, Port Ivory\, Rossville\, the eerie site of the Ship’s Graveyard\, Tottenville\, Prince’s Bay and Seguine’s Point together with key New Jersey maritime\, commercial and industrial sites located along the Kill Van Kull\, the Arthur Kill and Newark Bay including: Bayonne\, Elizabeth\, Linden\, Carteret and historic Perth Amboy\, which\, overlooks the beautiful Raritan Bay. \nBridges under which our boat passes include the recently renovated Bayonne\, the restored Vertical Lift Railroad Bridge\, the all new Goethals Bridge\, the Outerbridge Crossing and the Verrazano Narrows. \nLighthouses described and seen on this exciting tour include: Robbin’s Reef\, Great Beds\, Prince’s Bay\, Staten Island’s Rear Range\, (site of the Old Orchard Shoals Lighthouse destroyed by Sandy in 2012)\, New Dorp\, Elm Tree Beacon and the Battery Weed Light of Fort Wadsworth. \nTickets are non-refundable. \nLighthouse Boat Tours commence rain or shine. \nThe boat leaves from the NYC Ferry-Fast Ferry Dock. DESCRIPTION:Featuring Paintings and Tales of Many of the World’s Storied Lights \nAbout The Artists: \nBarbara J. Kraemer\nBarbara is an award-winning artist\, with her work held in private and corporate collections and appearing in several publications. She is a member of Pine Shores Art Association\, The New Jersey Watercolor Society\, The Brevard Watercolor Society\, and The Florida Watercolor Society\, but she is not limited to watercolor. She works in every two-dimensional medium and enjoys the challenge of all subjects\, from seascapes and landscapes to portraits. She believes every view can be a compelling painting. \nIn addition to creating her own artwork\, she teaches art in New Jersey and Florida\, and in Spring 2024\, she was asked to demonstrate painting techniques at Brevard County Florida’s major annual SPLASH Watercolor Art Show. She makes time to also continue her own art studies under the direction of renowned painters. Her work is regularly seen in coastal exhibitions. \nBarbara holds a BA in Mass Communications and Public Relations.  Her 40+ year career included working for several major New York advertising agencies.  She also served as owner and president of A Current Affair\, which served the tristate area\, providing a full range of special event planning and publicity. \n  \nSuzi Hoffman\nSuzi is a professional artist working primarily in watercolor/mixed media and acrylics. Her artwork is in corporate and private collections across the nation and regularly seen in coastal art shows. In 2023\, she was accepted into the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Annual show and invited to be part of the Heart of South Jersey Arts & Cultural Connections exhibit. In 2021\, she was awarded 2nd place in the LBI Foundation’s “Plein Air Plus” national juried competition. She is past president of the Paducah Art Guild and Gallery in Kentucky\, and she has been on the board of directors of Pine Shores Art Association in New Jersey for several years\, currently serving as Director of their two galleries. She’s also co-curator of the Beach Haven Borough Hall Gallery\, and she authored “Guide to the Jersey Shore”\, a 2021 publication illustrated by Pine Shores Art Association. \nMajoring in art at Endicott College in New England\, she continued art studies at the Corcoran Gallery of Art School in Washington\, DC and Paducah School for Art and Design in Kentucky. \nAs a free-lance writer and graphic artist\, her client list included theatres\, performing arts centers\, charitable organizations\, advertising agencies\, and major newspapers. Before opening her studio\, she was marketing manager at Smithsonian’s National Zoological Park in Washington\, DC. \n  \n  \n. \n  \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Popularly regarded as NLM’s “Signature Tour” this exciting boat tour\, familiarizes passengers with key lighthouses that facilitate safe passage from the Atlantic Ocean into Lower New York Harbor. The series will be narrated by Wade R. Goria. Wade is a National Lighthouse Museum historian\, author\, and former New York University professor. \nWe explore a total of nine lighthouses: Battery Weed Light located atop Fort Wadsworth\, the Coney Island Lighthouse\, West Bank and Romer Shoals Lighthouses\, the Sandy Hook Light\, The Twin Lighthouses of Navesink at Atlantic Highlands\, the Staten Island Rear Range at Richmond Hill\, the New Dorp Light\, and the Elm Tree Beacon at Miller Field\, also located in New Dorp. \nAfter sailing past historic Forts Wadsworth and Hamilton at the Narrows\, we head under the Verrazano Bridge passing the former Quarantine stations of Hoffman and Swineburn Islands. \nEnroute to the Sandy Hook Light\, situated near the tip of an eight mile spit at Fort Hancock\, a coastal defense base that once guarded the approach of NY Harbor\, we learn about the role that this proud and historic beacon has played on behalf of NYC’s maritime trade and its commerce over the centuries. \nCruising on the Ambrose Channel\, Sandy Hook Bay and the Shrewsberry River we journey along the Atlantic Highlands past the towns of Keyport and Leonardo\, home to Naval Weapons Station Earle and the world’s longest pier as well as Mount Mitchill\, the highest point on the Atlantic coast from Maine to the Yucatan in Mexico. The Atlantic Highlands is home to one of the most spectaular lighthouses in America: the Navesink Twin Light Station\, the very first structure in America witnessed by immigrants following an Atlantic crossing. \nUpon our return along the Ambrose Channel into Lower New York Bay\, we head near to the Coney Island Lighthouse at Norton’s Point in Seagate\, Coney Island\, where famed Keeper Frank Schubert\, NYC’s last Light Keeper\, resided for 40 years. DESCRIPTION:Exhibit runs from December 14th to January 8th \nOpening reception on December 14th from 5pm- 7pm \nFathom is a video installation that explores the mercurial experience of time passing and the impermanence of life. Set in a dreamlike\, transitional space—part waiting room\, part ship at sea—the work evokes a sense of suspension\, with figures paused\, waiting\, and watching. Through their actions\, the boundaries between measuring time and space blur\, reflecting the paradox that after events pass\, only memories persist\, hovering between the tangible and the ephemeral. \nThe title\, Fathom\, embodies this duality. Rooted in its nautical origins as a unit of depth—once defined by the span of a sailor’s outstretched arms—it also invites the viewer to “fathom” or contemplate the immeasurable: time\, memory\, and absence. The work is both a meditation and a memento mori\, like staring at the sea—immense\, beautiful\, unknowable. \nAbout the Artist: Caleb Hammond is a creator of performance and visual art. He is an actor\, director\, and video and installation artist whose work has been performed and exhibited nationally and internationally. In his original works\, he explores fragmented and layered imagery\, using multiple exposure techniques to create environments that shift and slip\, providing viewers with surprising\, multifaceted experiences. His work examines the scale and shape of the spaces we inhabit\, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior\, monumental and mundane events\, expansive and empty spaces\, and the passage of time.
